I'm talking from the perspective of someone only really interested in 3S. Because if I buy it as it is now, with all its quality of life issues and its hit or miss online, I think I won't enjoy it. I'll just wait some time before I get it. Seeing all the reviews about 30th and its current issues. The online is very solid vs players with low ping and it allowing direct communication among players is great. So I simply moved to Fightcade and it's been pretty good, especially since a ROM that fixes the black bars glitch got released.

You leave the game itself untouched, but add new features and a good presentation, and OFC, super important, you ensure that the online is as good as possible.īut its playerbase for my region shrinked a lot after the PS4 was out for a couple of years. and the netcode was very solid, GGPO by Iron Galaxy (it doesn't get much better than that, only KI and Skullgirls might have better netcode). the lobby system was great, you could see the ping of your opponend before accepting the match both in ranked and in lobbies. But the trials, re-designed interface, improved soundtrack, a lot of additional colors, new artwork and better character portraits.

Gameplay wise it's the same for me, I can't tell appart 1 frame more or less of input lag that there might or might not be between Fightcade and the PS3 version of OE. I played OE back in the day and I still play Fightcade, which to my surprise isn't deserted as I expected after the release of 30th (yay!), less players but still a decent amount of people there. I'm so excited to finally have 3rd Strike on my current gen console.but this is embarrassing. It doesn't include all the other games, but this port in particular is 5 steps in the wrong direction.

Anyone who has played both of these knows 3SOE is night and day better. HOW THE HELL IS A NEWER PORT OF 3rd STRIKE WORSE THAN AN OLDER ONE? Some crazy high execution player will probably tell me there are some inconsistencies, but for 99.9% of 3S players it is fine. Gameplay: 3SOE is pretty, but it's not a true arcade port, is it? In my experience the 2 versions (3SOE and SF303S) play exactly the same. The newest version of 3rd Strike sounds like absolute garbage: music automatically quiets for vocal lines, the stereo sides for sound effects are inconsistent, vocals are quiet, sound effects too loud-but still with no real oomf. Seriously this is the biggest difference. Compare that with the new SF 30th Anniv.which sounds like someone mic'ed an old arcade cab from 10ft away and tried to raise the fidelity with absolutely zero audio engineering experience. In my arcade cabinet at home (360 console) the game SCREAMS character and the music + sound effects are bumping. Looking back at 3SOE, the remaster has very crisp, punchy sound effects. Sound: 3S has one of the most beloved soundtracks in fighting games, so folks were excited for 30th Anniv's release. 3SOE is the clear winner here, but it's not a true arcade port.so that shouldn't count too much, right? The game still has a decent border, but that's about it. SF30 3S is a direct arcade port, so it lacks a good bit of this. While none of these really impact the gameplay itself, they're nice to have. User Interface: 3SOE has completely overhauled artwork, select screens, game modes, as well as some cool filters and widescreen options for the game. To familiarize yourself with 3SOE, check out this overview. I really want to take a look at the most recent two because I see the most differences there. I own and have been playing the game for over a decade across multiple ports-the Street Fighter Anniversary Collection (PS2), 3S Online Edition (Xbox 360), and now SF 30th Anniversary Collection (PS4). So first off, I'm a massive 3rd Strike fan.
